Man Utd contact Barcelona over injured star

Manchester United are rumored to have made contact with Barcelona over versatile defender Andreas Christensen, although he has not played since August due to an Achilles injury.

The 28-year-old played 26 minutes in Barcelona’s first LaLiga game against Valencia, but has resurfaced with the Achilles problem that first plagued him in March.

Christensen missed BarcelonaThe last 30 games in all competitions as a result, watching from the sidelines as the club’s early season form has been marred by a catalog of disastrous defeats – Atletico Madrid now top the table ahead of Real Madridand Barca is third and six points behind.

Spanish publication SPORT report Barcelona’s change of heart on selling Ronaldo Araujo – he was strongly linked with Juventus and was also a reported target for Arsenal – encouraged the club to reassess who they could release in January.

Christensen’s name is mentioned alongside Eric Garcia and the report also mentions United, who are 14th in the Premier League table but have enjoyed an unforgettable victory in the third round of the FA Cup around Arsenal on Sunday, they have been in touch over the former Chelsea star.

Nothing is said to have progressed beyond United’s inquiry into what appears, on the surface at least, to be a well-stocked centre-back department.

Harry Maguire is enjoying a revival at the heart of the back three, flanked by a combination of Matthijs de Ligt, Leny Yoro, Lisandro Martinez, Victor Lindelof and, at times, flying full-back Noussair Mazraoui.

Christensen is also capable of playing a defensive midfield role – he has played for Barcelona in that position several times – although again United have Manuel Ugarte and Casemiro on the books and Kobbie Mainoo and Christian Eriksen can also drop deeper if needed.

At the very least, Barcelona are likely to try to push someone through the exit door, due to the ongoing delicacy of their finances. The club has only managed to temporarily register Danij Olm until early April, with sales in January and the summer the only viable way to possibly pay for potential new signings.
