Erik ten Hag ‘regularly visits’ European giants after Man Utd departure
Erik ten Hag has made frequent visits to Borussia Dortmund since being sacked as Manchester United manager – but the Bundesliga giants currently have no plans to replace Nuri Sahin, according to reports in Germany.
Ten Hag was sacked from his position at Old Trafford in October, a late 2-1 defeat by West Ham United left the Red Devils 14th in the Premier League table with four defeats in their opening nine matches – where they still are after almost three months.
The Dutchman is still unemployed and has not yet been linked with any major jobs, so the news of his visits to Dortmund will certainly arouse the interest of observers.
Sky Germany note that Ten Hag was present at Dortmund’s recent 3-2 defeat at Bayer Leverkusen, where he was accompanied by marketing director Carsten Cramer and even spoke to technical director Sven Mislintat, ex-Arsenal.
The former Ajax coach is rumored to have been a frequent visitor at Signal Iduna Park in recent months, thanks to the strong relationship he has with former Germany international Matthias Sammer, who is a senior adviser to the club.
Indeed, Sammer once hired Ten Hag to work as Bayern Munichreserve team coach and wanted to hire the 54-year-old as Germany Under-21 team boss while working for the national association.
However, there is currently no suggestion that Ten Hag could be in line to replace current manager Nuri Sahin, although there is pressure on the former midfielder to leave Dortmund in the Bundesliga table from the current ninth position.
Dortmund reached last season’s Champions League final under the leadership of Eden Terzić, but 12 days later he decided to leave the club. Sahin has been unable to continue that progress and will find himself under further scrutiny of his job if the gap in next year’s Champions League qualification becomes too wide – Dortmund currently trail fourth-placed Leipzig by five points.
