The IPL Dhumal IPL Chair opened on the Crown Control Committee in India (BCCI) plans to expand the women’s premier league (WPL). Dhumal, a member of the WPL Committee, said the Committee has no direct plans to increase the number of teams outside the existing five.
The women’s premier league has suffered significant growth during its first three seasons. Mumbaj Indians (MI) won their second title in three years by beating Delhi Capitals in the final of the 2025 edition. Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) recorded a win in the second edition of the tournament.

Arun Dhumal confirmed that the Crown control Committee in India (BCCI) has no immediate plans to expand the women’s premier league.
There were plans to add more teams after three seasons, but now the focus is on consolidation and strengthening the tournament before considering any expansion. WPL oversees the committee led by BCCI President Roger Binny.
“In order to further strengthen this tournament for now, we want to consolidate each other before we call the further adding of any team. There are no direct plans (to add teams),” Arun Dhumal told the PTI news agency.
The women’s premier league has shown growth in the first three seasons, with an increase in attendance and viewership at the stage. Significantly, the WPL 2025 had about 150 million spectators in 22 matches, and the final and introductory match attracted the highest viewership.

Arun Dhumal also said that the growth of the female cristen promises. He expressed his satisfaction with the progress of the tournament and believes that the success of the league enhances the female cricket around the world. He hopes this momentum will continue.
“So, within three editions, WPL has increased phenomenally in terms of traction, for the attendance of the stadium. All the broadcast numbers are very, very encouraging. And this has given a new impetus to the female crown around the world,” Dhumal said.
“So, we hope this will continue to grow. And this is very good not only for the tournament, but also the female crisis in general,” he added.
WPL still adopt a home format and guests
The Women’s Premier League did not adopt a home format and in the Indian Premier League. This year’s event was hosted by several places, including Mumbai, Bengalur, Barod and Lucknow. The Mumbaj Indians won their second title in three years by beating Delhi Capitals in the finals.
BCCI created the RS 4670 crown from the sale of five teams representing Delhi, Mumbai, Bengalur, UP and Gujarat. In addition, media rights have been sold for 951 crowns, establishing WPL as the second largest female cricket league around the world before it started at all.
Although the audience’s attendance was good for most of the matches, the main goal of the league remains the promotion of the women’s cricket in India and discover a new talent, with enough space for future growth in these areas.
