The Government of Argentina has located football in the center of ideological debate in the country in the middle of the economic crisis that threatens the survival of many clubs. Since President Javier Milei suggested that he reduce state subsidies and open clubs to private investments, football – one of the columns of Argentine identity – became a battlefield between the opponent’s visions.
Milei is needed for Milei, while fans, club leaders and Argentine Football Federation (AFA) who saw that many young players from very small clubs are becoming a world megastat, fear that these organizations could lose their social and common role or even disappear without state support.
