Belgium responds, saying that they are no longer welcome in Rwandan in the country.
Rwanda says she has broken diplomatic ties with Belgium and ordered all the diplomats of the European country to leave the country within 48 hours.
In a statement on Monday, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation of Rwanda accused Belgium of “consistently” stimulated by Kigalija “during the current conflict in the Democratic Republic of Congo” (DRC).
“Rwande’s government has informed the Belgium Government today of his decision to immediately split diplomatic relations,” he added.
In return, Belgium said they were no longer welcome in Rwandan in the country.
“Belgium regrets the decision of Rwanda to interrupt diplomatic relations with Belgium and declare a Belgian diplomatic person non grata,” said Foreign Minister Maxime to translate on X.
“It is disproportionate and shows that when we disagree with Rwanda, they do not rather deal with dialogue.”
The move by Rwanda was followed by President Paul Kagama accused Belgium of advocating for international sanctions against his country for conflict in Eastern DrC.
