Chelsea want ‘devastating’ £50m star who could end Mudryk’s Blues career

Chelsea they’ve clearly gone through a major squad overhaul over the past few years, getting rid of some of their senior squad players and replacing them with young and exciting talent at every position on the pitch.

In some areas you can already see this paying off, such as central midfield with the big money signings of Enzo Fernández, Moises Caicedo and Romé Lavia, who could dominate that midfield for years to come.

However, one area the Blues continue to spend money on in each window is the wide forwards, acquiring the likes of Pedro Neto and Jadon Sancho just left in the summer, he wants to join Mihajlo MudrikNoni Madueke and Raheem Sterling in the years before.

While many of these signings have shown glimpses of brilliance, it appears that Chelsea have yet to fully land the wide player as a superstar, and the club remain intent on improving in this area if given the chance.

Chelsea are considering the LaLiga winger

Speaking further Podcast Athletic FCDavid Ornstein has reported that Chelsea remain interested in Athletic Bilbao winger Nic Williams. Arsenal are also interested in the Spaniard, but a package would likely cost around €60m (£50m), which is the player’s release clause.

It is said that the overall package of the deal (including the winger’s high wages) is what put Chelsea off a deal in the summer, and this is likely to be the case again with any current deal for Williams. According to KapologyThe 22-year-old currently earns just over €200,000 a week, which is around £167,000.

Williams has he has made 25 appearances for Bilbao in all competitions this seasonscoring two goals, five assists and playing a total of 1710 minutes.

Comparison of Williams and Mudryk

Unfortunately for Chelsea, with Mudryk now sidelined for an undisclosed amount of time through suspension, the Blues could be forced to act early on another striker signing, and Williams would offer that. The Ukrainian has made 73 appearances since joining the club in 2023, scoring ten goals and registering nine assists during that time.

So if we look at the statistics, we can see why “devastating” winger – as described by Emmanuel Petit – would be quite an upgrade.

When you compare the two players, you can immediately tell that they both have similar styles of play, in fact they are truly first wingers, who boast the quality and creativity to find their teammates with progressive and key passes and find entrances into the penalty area through their skill set.

However, while Williams has struggled for goals this season (just two so far, giving him 0.09 goals per 90), his shot volume is still higher than Mudryk’s, a trait Chelsea lack in wide areas apart from Madueke on on the right side.

This mix of ability to create for others as well as himself would be a welcome attribute for Enzo Maresca on the wing.

Whether Chelsea look to sign Williams in January, return for him in the summer or move on to other targets in the summer, the need for another left-back will be determined by the length of time Mudryk is out, so he’s definitely one to keep an eye on.
