KL Rahul refuses to play in England series


The Indian national cricket team will be without the services of its key player, KL Rahul, in the white ball series against the England national cricket team. According to reports in PTI, it is learned that the wicketkeeper-batsman has decided to rest in both T20Is and ODIs.

The Indian national cricket team will host the England national cricket team in a five-match T20I series and a three-match ODI series. After that, they will play the ICC Champions Trophy 2025, which will be played from February 19 to March 9.

Rahul sought a break from the England series but confirmed his availability for the ICC Champions Trophy 2025. His request for rest comes after a busy Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024-25, where he played a key role for the India National Cricket Team while opening the innings.

A source close to the BCCI confirmed the development regarding KL Rahul and said, “He has sought a break for the England series but will be available for selection for the Champions Trophy.”

Rahul looked in decent form in the 2024-25 Border-Gavaskar Trophy as he was the third leading run-getter of the Indian national cricket team. The former hit 276 runs in 10 innings at an average of 30.66 with two half-centuries.

Rishabh Pant and Sanju Samson are expected to be the two keepers in the Indian squad for England.

Recently, there were some reports that there is no certainty over KL Rahul’s place in the Indian squad for the ICC Champions Trophy 2025. But later it was also reported that he should be the team’s first choice keeper going into the high-profile tournament.

With Rahul set to miss the England series, Rishabh Pant and Sanju Samson are expected to be the two keepers in the squad. The duo will battle it out for a spot in the 2025 ICC Champions Trophy, as one of them is expected to be the second wicket-keeper for the Indian national cricket team.

Not only from the series against England cricket team, KL Rahul also decided to rest from Karnataka’s Vijay Hazare Trophy matches. His national team will play in the quarterfinals this weekend.

Rahul played his last match with the white ball during the ODI series against the Sri Lankan cricket team. He played the first two matches of the series before being dropped from the team and replaced by Rishabh Pant. He was a key member of the ICC World Cup 2023 squad as he played several impressive innings.

KL Rahul played a bizarre innings in the final of the ICC World Cup 2023. However, the ICC Champions Trophy 2025 will be a golden opportunity for him to redeem himself and help his team win the championship.
