Liam Dawson’s outstanding catch left Quinton de Kock stunned in the SA20 2025 match.

Sunrisers Eastern Cape (SEC) all-rounder Liam Dawson produced a spectacular on-field performance against Durban Super Giants (DSG) in Match 14 of the SA20 2025 season. Liam Dawson completed an incredible one-handed catch to send JJ Smuts back into the game, leaving fans and players in wonder.

Durban Super Giants captain Keshav Maharaj won the toss and elected to bat first at St George’s Park in Gqeberha on Sunday 19 January. However, their batting line-up struggled early as Eastern Cape Sunrisers pacers Marco Jansen and Richard Gleeson ran through the top order, reducing them to 18/4.

The fourth wicket was JJ Smuts, and it was credit to outsider Liam Dawson. The moment of the match happened during the 6th over of Durban’s innings. Richard Gleeson bowled a full delivery around the off-stump line. Smuts started out of gear but tried to adjust his shot, which led to a foul.

The ball appeared to be heading for the boundary but Dawson dived to his right and made a superb grab. The catch stunned Smuts and even surprised Quinton de Kock, who could hardly believe his eyes from the dressing room. It was one of the best catches of the tournament.

The official SA20 account on social media platform X (formerly known as Twitter) shared a clip of Dawson’s outstanding efforts on the field with the caption, “Liam Dawson’s catch was so good, even Quinton de Kock couldn’t believe it 🤯.”

Sunrisers, Eastern Cape, hit the target in 15.2 overs

The Eastern Cape Sunrisers bowlers, led by Marc Jansen and Richard Gleeson, dismissed the Durban Super Giants for a modest 115/8 in their 20 overs. Kane Williamson’s patient 44 was the only significant contribution from the Super Giants, while Naveen-ul-Haq added a quickfire 30 off 15 balls.

In reply, Eastern Cape Sunrisers comfortably chased down the target in 15.2 overs. David Bedingham scored an explosive 39 off 20 balls and Aiden Markram added 31 off 20, guiding them to victory. With the win, SEC earned bonus points and moved to fourth place with 10 points from 5 matches.

A good start saw us secure the bonus point – Aiden Markram

Sunrisers captain Aiden Markram said the atmosphere among the home fans was electrifying. He emphasized that a strong start in the powerplay allowed his team to secure the bonus point. Markram also admitted they didn’t expect the wicket to play the way it did, with more bounce than expected.

“I also said at the draw that (the atmosphere of the home fans) was really great. In the beginning you don’t pay too much attention to it. We wanted a good power play and luckily a good start made it possible to win bonus points. To be honest, I didn’t expect that the wicket will play this way rewards,” said Aiden Markram.
