Manoj Tiwary attacks Gautam Gambhir, uses Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli as weapons

Former Indian cricketer Manoj Tiwary has made a big claim about Rohit Sharma’s decision to sit out the final match of the 2024-25 Border-Gavaskar Trophy. He said it was the captain’s call as Gautam Gambhir could never drop the skipper or Virat Kohli.

Rohit Sharma has taken a big decision ahead of the final Test against the Australian national cricket team. The captain of the Indian national cricket team was dropped from the playing 11 as he consistently failed to score runs for the team either in the middle order or at the top.

Rohit Sharma played three matches in the 2024-25 Border-Gavaskar Trophy

Rohit played three matches in the 2024-25 Border-Gavaskar Trophy and managed just 31 runs at an average of around 6. This in itself reflects the kind of poor form he has endured. Even before the Australia series, he looked hot with the bat in the domestic Test season.

When Rohit did not turn up for the Sydney Test, there were reports that the decision was taken by Gautam Gambhir. But later the captain, in a candid conversation with Star Sports, revealed that he decided to quit because he didn’t want too many out-of-form batsmen.

I don’t think Gautam Gambhir will be able to drop Virat Kohli or Rohit Sharma – Manoj Tiwary

Manoj Tiwary also believes that Rohit decided to quit on his own and not Gautam Gambhir. He added that the captain should have played the game as few players were scoring runs and added that the captain had doubts about his abilities. Speaking to Hindustan Times, he said:

“I think Rohit Sharma took a decision. It was his own decision. I don’t think Gautam Gambhir will be able to drop Virat Kohli or Rohit Sharma. I think it was Rohit’s decision. Rohit should have played in Sydney because he was the captain.

“He said he didn’t score runs, so obviously, he didn’t score runs, but neither did the others. Sometimes, you go into that mindset when you feel like you have to be thrown out and not somebody else. You’re just doubting your abilities and putting other people’s abilities above your own.”

As a captain, you can’t quit when a Test series is on the line – Manoj Tiwary

Manoj Tiwary added that Rohit should not have taken that decision as every player goes through a tough time. He said that even though the batsman took a decision for the good of the team, he should not have backed down when the Test series was on the line. He added:

“This should not be done by the captain. I think Rohit Sharma is an amazing talent. He has proved himself. Batsmen and bowlers, everyone is going through a tough time. Even the coaches too.

“These things can be rectified and you can come back and score runs. I personally felt he shouldn’t have dropped out. He seems to have done it for the good of the team. As a captain, you can’t drop out of a Test series is on the line.”
