Dozens were evacuated as the fire broke out into the Buenos Aires skyscraper


More than 100 people were evacuated from the luxury housing tower in the Argentine capital, Buenos Aires, expanded as a fire through several floors, emergency services said.

Forty people were treated for smoke inhalation and several others were admitted to the hospital before the flame was controlled.

The cause of the fire is not yet known.

The 50 -storey building is located in the exclusive neighborhood of Puerto Madero.

Alberto Crescenti, head of the Buenos Aires emergency service, told the local media that the fire “extended up to 15 kata”.

The broken glass fell from the window, he said.

“Fortunately, it was a very fast evacuation, which means that people are not in danger,” he added.

Firefighter Christian Benitez told AFP news agency that not all residents were in danger.

“I heard the fire alarm and went down as far as I could,” Ornella Gril, 30, told the AFP outside the building.

Mariano Pavone, a former leg playing for Argentine Giants River Tanjur and the Spanish club Real Betis, who lives in a building, said Noticias Argentinas to the news agency: “I saw smoke and came down with my son and his dog.

“Fortunately, nothing happened to my apartment. I’m immeasurable to my neighbors. Fortunately it was just intimidation.”
