Antony is closing in on a move away from Man Utd as a loan deal has been verbally agreed
It is incomprehensible that Manchester United agreed to this loan Antony to Real Betis until the end of the season.
The Brazilian misfit arrived at United for a fee in excess of £80million in the summer of 2022, but has struggled desperately to live up to that hefty price tag. Antony has fallen out of favor with his former boss Ajax Erik ten Haag and was afforded just two starts by the Dutchman’s successor, Ruben Amorim.
Antony was made available for sale this month and at launch attracted interest from Greek Olympiakos. But La Liga side Real Betis have been the most persistent suitors and have now reached a verbal agreement with United and the winger, Fabrizio Romano reports.
The deal is still subject to a completed medical and verification of final documents, but all three parties are believed to have agreed to a six-month loan deal with no buyout clause included. By the end of June, Antonius he will return to United again.
Betis have lost their last three games and dropped into the bottom half La Liga table. However, the team led by former Manchester City coach Manuel Pellegrini is still in a better position than United.
Antony only came on in the last six minutes of the Red Devils game a 3-1 loss to Brighton on Sunday afternoon. After overseeing the club’s tenth loss in the championship season, Amorim described the current team as “perhaps the worst team in the history of Manchester United”.
Despite this poor run of form and the impending departures of Antony and fellow striker Marcus Rashford, the Premier League strugglers have not been heavily linked with January arrivals. Instead, United are considered to have made every player in the squad available for sale to raise funds before Amorim sees any arrivals this summer.
