Gabriel Jesus, who has scored six goals in his last seven games, has been a man in serious form – but the Brazilian will not be seen again until the end of the 2024/25 season, after tearing his ACL against Man United last weekend.

Arteta is also without star winger Bukaya Saka, who is expected to be out until March following hamstring surgery. The goals and assists from these two players are crucial to Arsenal’s title hopes, but it is now up to interim sporting director Jason Ayto to find a solution to their absences.

Ayto and the Gunners’ recruitment team are actively scouring the market for a new striker to bolster Arteta’s squad, with the Spaniard saying it is “clear” they need to get another striker through the door before the February 3 deadline.

“Obviously we have more of a need now because of what’s happened in the last few weeks. That’s obvious,” he said Arteta on January transfers.

“I think that’s more of a question for Jason [Ayto]. I don’t know, but I think we have to do what we think is right and what we can do. That’s it, and it’s clear that we would like to improve the team, especially with what happened. Can we do it or not? It depends on a lot of factors.”

One potential arrival believed to make serious progress is their pursuit of the Real Sociedad midfielder Martin Zubimendi.

Arsenal are offering Tomiyasa and Kiwior in talks to sign Martin Zubimendi

Arsenal are believed to be in advanced negotiations for Zubimendias they try to lure the Spaniard to N5 in a pre-order deal for this summer.

While the Euro 2024 winner’s contract at Sociedad includes a £51m release clausewhich other media sources say Arsenal are planning to launch (Fabrizio Romano), a new report claims they put two members of the team on the table in an attempt to sign him at a lower price.

According to a Spanish media report, Arsenal offered Sociedad both Kiwior and Tomiyasu in negotiations for Zubimendiwhile Arteta’s side are planning a partial exchange offer.

With both, they are said to have put £25m on the table, with Arteta hoping Sociedad will agree to take half of Zubimendi’s release clause by including the two players in negotiations.

It’s unclear what Sociedad’s stance is on this, but it’s certainly a very intriguing development. Zubimendi was called Arsenal’s “perfect” midfielderand they seem to really push the boat to make it easier to move.
