Recent New York Times/Ipsos survey found that a large majority of Americans, including most Democrats, do not think transgender athletes should be allowed to compete in women’s sports.
“Thinking about transgender athletes — meaning athletes who were born male but currently identify as female — do you think they should or should not be allowed to compete in women’s sports?” the poll asked.
Of the 2,128 people who took part, 79% said biological males who identify as female should not be allowed to participate in women’s sports.

Of the 1,025 people who identified themselves as Democrats or leaning Democratic, 67% said transgender athletes should not be allowed to compete against women.
Among 1,022 Republicans, that number was 94 percent.
The 81 independents interviewed were the group most hesitant to say that transgender athletes should not be allowed to compete. Only 64% said they were against, while 26% refused to answer. Only 3% of Democrats and 1% of Republicans refused to answer.
The country saw a significant shift in awareness and opposition to the issue of transgender athletes in women’s sports in 2024, when numerous stories sparked national attention and controversy. The issue has become a key campaign issue in the November election for President-elect Trump and other Republicans.
AND national exit poll conducted by the legislative action committee Concerned Women for America (CWA) found that 70% of moderate voters see a problem with “Donald Trump’s opposition to transgender boys and men who play women’s and women’s sports and transgender boys and men who use women’s and women’s sports.” . bathrooms” as important to them.

With Trump set to return to office on Monday, Republicans are pushing legislation to address the issue in Congress.
The law on the protection of women and girls in sports was adopted on Tuesday in the House of Representatives and even had the support of two Democrats.
That account will advance Senate under Republican controland, if it passes there, Trump will sign it into law early in his term.
