Liverpool have confirmed the date of the rearranged Merseyside derby against Everton

Liverpool have confirmed that the Merseyside derby, which was canceled last month, has been moved to Wednesday, February 12.

The Reds were due to make a short trip to Everton in early December, just for schedule to be postponed after severe weather warnings left Merseyside Police advising against unnecessary travel.

Both sides are playing with games in hand over their opponents, but things will even out next month Liverpool make a trip to Goodison Park again.

It will almost certainly be the last Merseyside derby at Goodison, with Everton move to their new stadium at Bramley-Moore Dock at the end of the season. The only exception to this would be a win for both sides in the FA Cup fourth round matches and a draw afterwards.

Crucially, this date remains subject to Liverpool’s performance in the Champions League as it falls on the same date as the knockout round of the play-offs. The Reds are currently top of the table and need just one point from their remaining two games to secure automatic qualification for the finals, which will almost certainly come anyway given their commanding position in the table.

Liverpool are also top of the Premier League, building an imposing lead over Nottingham Forest, Arsenal and Chelsea despite playing one game less than those around them.

Everton meanwhile he has just welcomed David Moyes back to the dugout as they want to climb further away from the relegation zone. The Toffees are currently one point clear at the time of publication.
