Will Sebastian Coe be elected to the “most powerful position” in sports as president of the International Olympic Committee? | Olympic Games News
Sebastian Coe held the Olympic and Paralympic Games in London in 2012, restructured and reinforced athletic management body, took over the Russian state doping cheaters and hoped to be elected President of the International Olympic Committee (IOC).
This is the role viewed as the most powerful in sports, a role that not only shapes the future of many sports, but affects geopolitics and affects the presidents and premiere.
Coe’s manifesto is out there to see everyone, we also covered those of the other candidates. Of the seven candidates, three are viewed as front runners – Kirsty Coventry from Zimbabwe, Spanish Juan Antonio Samaranch and Coe.
Coe is publicly known and most characteristic. The double Olympic Gold Medal and Gamer in London in 2012 as president of the world athletics, he did not move away from the fight with Russian dopers and, I agree or not, he has an unambiguous position on the division of transgender participation in elite sports.
With only a few days while 109 MOO members decide who will inherit Thomas Bach in vote not far from Athens – the birthplace of the modern Olympic Game – Coe knows whether he will succeed in becoming only ten MOO president – far from his manifestas – he will have some emergencies he will deal with.
Trump, Musk and Zuckerberg ….
The US will host the two biggest sports events on the planet over the next three years. 2026. The US will be dominant host of the FIFA 2026 World Cup, and then in 2028. Los Angeles will host Olympic and Paralympic Games.
This means working with US President Donald Trump. Trump has his views and has already committed himself to executive commands that do not necessarily be aligned with many Olympic and sports values, but Coe says Trump has not “flooded” him.
“This is not an alien territory,” he said. “For many years, many years, passing in decades, I have worked closely with the world leaders, some of whom are in my political career, some in my career during London’s games. Bringing full of countries in London, when our own foreign policy was not the most popular foreign policy at the time, took a little leadership and took someone you can face.
“I know that Donald Trump will want extraordinary games in exactly the same way as in 1984, when I competed in my other Olympic Games, Ronald Reagan came to the table that way.
“I have such discussions all the time with the world leaders and it will not be different if I cross the line, it is a landscape that I am very, very familiar. I do not overcome very much, but I also know that I have the ability to cooperate and create things.”
As Fifa President Gianni Infantino met Trump, Coe is no doubt that cooperation is the best way to Moo.
Although he remains respected, Coe intends to talk openly with two Trumps of allies – Elon male and Mark Zuckerberg about the abuse that prevailed on their social media platforms (X and Meta).
He described those who publish sexist, misogynistic, homophobic and racist remarks as “life on the pond”; “I described them that way. And I’m not ashamed to say it and I’m absolutely happy to amplify my views.
“I talked to so many athletes in our sport, who are now routinely abused on the network in the smallest way and we cannot have a generation of women, girls who come to our sport thinking that this is a part and a plot to become an international athlete.
“We should not just sit there, pretending not to happen. And if I’m in a position of influence, I’ll have these discussions, absolutely.”
But they will be in a respectful way.
Boxing has an Olympic future
Boxing proved to be the most controversial sport in and out of the Ring at the Olympic Games in Paris. So bad running was boxing, its control body – IBA – it is forbidden to organize the last two tournaments of the Olympic Games in Tokyo and Paris with sports located in special measures and IOC.
But IOC won’t do it for the third game in La -u – the message: “Come your house okay or you’re out.”
With the world boxing on the verge of being a sustainable alternative to IBA, Coe knows the value of sports at the Olympic Games.
“Boxing has absolutely a future at the Olympic Games … I was on the British boxer committee for six years, it’s a sport that I not only understand, I actually served. And that is very important,” he said.
“And if you look at the history of the Olympic Movement, whether it is professional boxers who came out of the Olympic circle, you know, Muhammad, but obviously an obvious example … And now the role and presence of our boxers, which is a really important element of our sport. Yes, of course, boxers must have an Olympic future.”
Supported Usain Bolt, Sir Mo Farah … But is that important?
The vote to become the next president MOO -and it comes down to the decisions of 109 MOO members. Political, national interests and personality and alliances can vote here or there. One thing is clear, most athletes and athletes do not get this vote.
In recent days and weeks, however, all candidates are best working at a level to get support from any source, and for SEB COE who has seen some of the biggest sports stars there.
The fastest person on the planet, USAin Bolt, stands behind COE, such as the four-time Olympic gold medal Sir Mo Farah, while the current Star of the Trail and the Party, the 25-year-old Swedish Polo-Vaulter Mondo Duplantis described Coe as “One of us.”
However, one vote will not be provided for Coe, but the support of the celebrity stars may have an impact; “I am very touching and I look that we all think our sports are our family.
“They are an extended family for me. I watched many of them go through sports as promising young athletes, junior ranks, and then they differ in the senior ranks. I am very touching to do so.
“I hope it shows that there is sports support. And it seems, a large part of what I advocated is that the International Olympic Committee recognizes that it is primarily a sports organization.”
Mok’s biggest job ever?
In order to join the racing metaphor that was heard last week at the Cheltenham Festival, IOC presidential elections are in the last fence and in its final Furlong. Although all the candidates, including Coe, described the hugeness to be “president”, it may be surprising that Coe has not committed to (yet) say that it would be the highlight of his, though a rather successful career to this day.
Asked what his greatest achievement was, he replied: “London (Olympic Games 2012 and Paralympics) was a huge moment for me. I don’t say it would be bigger or less important than the Olympic Movement, but London was huge for me.
“So, look that I know that Thursday is serious and really important and I want to make a contribution, but if I look back to life with a little pride, then I have to say that I will be part of that leadership team and the whole people behind the concept of the Olympic Games in London.
