The Carabao Cup victory in Newcastle could mean up to 11 teams of the Premier League qualified for the European competition next season.
England would usually receive four Champions League sites, two for the Europa League and one in the Play -Foff Conference League phase – a total of seven teams in European competitions.
Two leagues each season also get an additional Champions League location based on average UEFA coefficients.
England currently runs the ladder, and more clubs have remained in European competitions in these ones than the leading rivals of Spain, Germany and Italy, which means that the first five in the Premier League will qualify for the tournament in next season.
There are additional places for the Champions League winners and the Europa League, if they are not already qualified. Arsenal and Aston Villa are located in the quarterfinals of the Champions League, and Manchester United and Tottenham in the same phase of the Europa League.
The next team in the league table qualified for the Europa League, along with the winners of the FA Cup.
Newcastle secured the conference league’s place with its victory Carabao Cup, but could upgrade to the Champions League or Europa League through their league position – are currently sixth with a match in their hands above them.
This would see the transfer of the Carabao Cup winner’s place to the leading team in the league that has not already qualified for Europe. The same is true of the Europa League second place if the FA Cup winners qualify through the league.
The winners of the Conference League are also qualified for the Europa League next season, and Chelsea is still in the discussion.
How is 11 Premier League teams qualify for Europe?
So, for 11 teams that qualify for Europe, the following must happen:
England earns the fifth place of the Champions League.
Villa wins the Champions League and ends outside the first five – or arsenal, although the second and very unlikely they are likely to fall out of the top five.
Manchester United or Spurs win the Europa League, and Chelsea won the conference league while exiting qualifying positions in the league.
Newcastle qualified for the smallest Europa league through his league position to leave his conference league.
