Barcelona confirmed that Central Bek Inigo Martinez had signed a new contract with the club.
Martinez’s previous contract was supposed to expire in the summer and the enhancement of fears that veteran veteran could be forced to leave after Extension Agreement has been blocked by LA Liga Financial Regulations.
Fortunately for Barcelona, they raised some unexpected funds through € 25 million sale From Vitor Roque to Palmeiras, giving them enough flexibility to complete Martinez’s new job.
The 33-year-old is now under a contract with Barcelona until the summer of 2026.
Martinez joined a free transfer of 2023 and played a spare role last season, starting only 16 times at all competitions. But the arrival of Hansi Flick in Catalonia was rejuvenated by the Spanish international, which was an integral part of the initial lineup this year.
32 of Martinez’s 33 appearances in all competitions came as a starter, making it one of the Flick’s most commonly used players this season.
Since Martinez’s new contract is now completed, the only contract that Barcelona was supposed to resolve this summer is that of 34-year-old goalkeeper Wojciech Szczesny.
Szczesny came out of retirement to help cover the long-term injury to Marc-Andre ter Stegen, but he caught the eye in his time in the starting line and is expected to be offered an extension in the following weeks.
