Julian Alvarez reveals when he decided to leave Man City
Julian Alvarez acknowledged his decision leave Manchester City has encouraged his limited role in the 2022/23 Champions League win campaign.
City won Inter in the finals that year, but Alvarez did not appear during the game at all. He is undisputed on the bench, as he did in the semi -final first leg against Real Madrid. He gave his return against Los Blancos for only one minute, in which he still managed to score.
After another 12 months that mostly acted as spare for Erling Haaland, Alvarez took his talents elsewhere, sealing the move to Atletico Madrid at £ 81m in August 2024.
“The truth is CityEver since I arrived, he believed me, “Alvarez said Infobae. “They brought me from Rijeka to Europe. I played a lot of games, scored a lot of goals, we won the titles. That was perfect.
“And if I stayed there, I would have been comfortable. I always said that I was very grateful to the club, but I needed something. Something in me was told that I needed a different challenge, to look for something new, which is not a motivation, because I will always want to continue, but something I don’t know, it would be, and I could be, and it could be, and what I could be in my place, in its place.
“I want to play the most important games. As I said, I don’t know, in the Champions League final; I didn’t go in. I didn’t play a lot in the semifinals, and I would love to play in these kinds of games. And with what I said before, I thought about changing.”
Alvarez left City with the return of 36 goals and 17 assists in 103 appearances. While 61 of them came as an beginning, most of his opportunities came when Haaland was either injured or resting, and the competition was so intense that Pep Guardiola even decided to schedule in the middle of the field.
Ever since he moved to Spain, Alvarez has already scored 20 goals, forcing an excellent partnership with Antoine Griezmann in the attack by Diego Simeone.
