“Who gave him permission?” – Anuj Rawat in trouble as he left the Ranji camp in Delhi to join Gujarat Titans
Delhi wicketkeeper batsman Anuj Rawat has come under extensive scrutiny for skipping the national team’s camp to attend the IPL team’s camp. The left-hander was seen at the Gujarat Titans camp in Surat and that did not go down well with the DDCA officials.
Anuj Rawat, who was picked by Gujarat Titans in the IPL 2025 auction, was supposed to train with the Delhi team ahead of the next round of Ranji Trophy in 2024-25. Instead, he went to Surat and underwent online sessions with the franchise, which itself confirmed the development.
Players like Anuj Rawat, Ishant Sharma, Jayant Yadav, Kumar Kushagra, Mahipal Lomror and Arshad Khan joined the team in the camp – Gujarat Titans
Gujarat Titans released an official statement and said, “Gujarat Titans have started their preparations for IPL 2025 with a training camp in Surat. Players like Anuj Rawat, Ishant Sharma, Jayant Yadav, Kumar Kushagra, Mahipal Lomror and Arshad Khan have joined the team in the camp together with the coaches and support staff.”
While the BCCI is taking all possible steps to get the players to focus on red-ball cricket, Rawat’s action could spell trouble for him. Being one of the most exciting talents in the country, the goalkeeper-shooter is sure to be tested by the top teams.
I don’t know that Anuj skipped the ongoing Ranji Trophy camp to attend the IPL team camp – DDCA Secretary Ashok Sharma
Delhi and Districts Cricket Association (DDCA) secretary Ashok Sharma said he has no knowledge of Anuj Rawat skipping the team camp for the IPL camp. He pointed out that the attacker needed permission, but he did not. He also spoke about Ishant Sharma joining the IPL camp, saying the pacer does not need permission as he is not playing in the Ranji Trophy. As quoted by PTI, he said:
“I don’t know that Anuj has skipped the ongoing Ranji Trophy camp to attend the IPL team camp. Ideally, he needs to get permission from the state association. We have two Ranji matches left and the camp is in Kotla.
“I don’t know who gave him permission to skip the Ranji Trophy camp. Ishant’s case is different as he doesn’t need DDCA’s permission as he is not playing Ranji Trophy.”
I can confirm that we have not received any written request from Anuja Rawat – DDCA Officer
A senior DDCA official also admitted that several players had sought permission to join the IPL camps but Rawat had not sent any mail. He concluded by saying that the young batsman should not have joined the IPL camp. he said:
“We have received several official email requests from certain players seeking permission to join their IPL camps, but I can confirm that we have not received a written request from Anuja Rawat. In that case, he should not have joined the IPL camp.”
