Trump’s viral name change to ‘America’s Bay’ prompts a proposal the size of Texas: Buc-ee’s Bay

On the trail President-elect Donald Trump announcing that he hoped to change the name of the Gulf of Mexico to the “Gulf of America,” the Texas congressman offered a compromise the size of the Lone Star.

“An interesting compromise,” Republican Rep. Dan Crenshaw published as a title on a map showing the Gulf of Mexico marker replaced by the emblem of a grinning Buc-ee beaver in his trademark red cap.

His post went viral on social media as one enthusiastically commented, “Buc-ee’s Bay!”

Although it’s only just beginning to expand its footprint in the North, the Lake Jackson, Texas-based interstate gas station/meal-stop/country store/convenience store behemoth has a cult following in the South — as evidenced by the response to Crenshaw and others carrying the idea.

Known for its more than 100 low-priced gas stations that help draw crowds, Buc-ee’s has been described as both a 7-Eleven “on steroids” and an “amusement park without the rides.”

Chefs can be heard regularly calling out “Fre-e-esh brisket on the board” as they continually supply patrons with Texas barbecue from a station in the middle of the store, while cheeky billboards advertise their huge, spotless bathrooms for miles.

The stores are also known for their mascot’s prized “Beaver Nuggets,” a freshly made brownie, a “wall” of cured meats; vacation necessities such as camping chairs, clothing and even meat smokers.

on Tuesday, Trump said he would change the name of the Gulf to the “appropriate” and “beautiful” “American Gulf.”

In response, Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum posted a picture of herself in front of an 18th-century map showing much of the United States as “Mexican America” and jokingly suggested that the name should be restored.

About Crenshaw’s “Gulf of Buc-ee’s” idea, social media was ablaze with support for the red-hatted beaver.

“I would support that,” one X user wrote.

“Gulf of Buc’ees gets my vote — that means a brisket sandwich and a pit stop with hundreds of clean bathrooms every 3 hours…maybe an iron skillet, crab pot, or a pair of Buc-ees pajamas,” another user dreamed of that idea.

Another commenter said they had yet to visit the Buc-ees, but joked, “I hope one day to be named among the blessed who have entered through the Brisket Gates. Gulf of Buc-ee’s – I can back that up.”
