The former Bournemouth star has been one of the few bright spots in Spurs’ campaign so far, but his place in the squad could soon be under threat, as recent reports have linked the club with another free-scoring number nine who could be a player to upgrade.

Mega money deals, controversial moves and big name failures. This is the home of transfer news and opinion across the Football FanCast.
The report claims the Canadian agent has offered the forward to clubs recently, including the Lilywhites, which could be too tempting an offer to pass up.
The potential cost is not mentioned in the story, but given that his contract is expiring this summer, and is therefore free to sign with foreign clubs this month, it wouldn’t surprise us if he was available for even less than £20 million which it was reported last summer.
Daniel Levy and Co might prefer to sign David on a free in the summer, but given his sensational form over the past few years and the club’s current need for attacking reinforcements, it would undoubtedly be worth spending the money to bring him in this month, even if his arrival could spell trouble for Solanki.
How David compares to Solanke
So if Spurs are to be proactive this month and decide to bring David to the club, it would likely be with the promise of regular football if his performances warrant it, meaning he would be in direct competition with Solanke for a starting position up top, but who better striker?
Well, when it comes to their clean sheet this season, it’s a comprehensive victory for the Lille ace, who has found the net in just 29 appearances on 17 times and six assists for good measure, which means he’s currently averaging a goal every 1.26 games.
In contrast, the former Cherries star scored 11 goals and six assists in the same number of games, which equates to a brilliant but still worse goal share average of every 1.70 games.
The phenomenon born in New York has not only been a more prolific number nine this season.
Indeed, he collected a simply sensational catch last season 26 goals and nine assists in 47 appearances, averaging a goal every 1.34 games, and lends credibility to the podcast host and Canadian soccer expert Tony Marinaro claims he is “one of the best strikers in the world” and Football Talent Scout Jacek Kuligdescription of being an “amazing” striker.
In comparison, the former Chelsea ace also had a great season on the south coast, but his result 21 goals and four assists in 42 games he is still averaging a slightly less impressive goal share every 1.68 games.

Finally, while the Lilywhites’ starting striker has experience of playing in England, the Lille poacher has experience of playing in the Champions League, racking up the tally seven goals and one assist in 14 performances in the biggest European competition.
Ultimately, Spurs have a talented striker in Solanke, but based on the past few years, it’s clear that David is the more successful goalscorer, and if the club have the opportunity to sign him this month, they must take it.
