Rangers head coach Barry Ferguson says he saw a ‘heart and desire’ on the field in Ragby Park as they set a dramatic return to win 4-2.

Former Ibrox captain, who won 15 trophies as a player, finished the whirlwind 48 hours after replacing Philippe Clement celebrating while traveling his name fans.

Ferguson is now asking for his players to continue to show the same fight as they have gone on the strikes of Joe Wright and Beard Lyon, the rest of the season.

“I’m not going to be overly excited. It was good, but there are a lot of things we need to improve and the guys know that,” the 47-year-old told Sky Sports.

“They were under this supervision, but they have a heart and a desire.

“I wouldn’t take the job if I didn’t think I could get something out of them. Tonight they showed them the other side.

“I won’t take away, that’s just one game. Now they need to bring it on Saturday because they’re home and if it’s like after 10 minutes, the crowd starts to get on you.

“They have to learn to deal with these situations. Spending the last 24 hours with them, I think they now understand that situation.”

After starting with the same early XI as Choong Clement, his position with a 2-0 defeat of St. Mirrena, Ferguson hooked Clinton Nsiala after a fighting half an hour in Kilmarnock.

“Sometimes during the game when things don’t go to you, you have to make difficult decisions,” Ferguson added.

“Clinton’s young man, he would recover from it, but I just felt that at that stage we had to make a change and obviously we did it.

“We started controlling the game, we probably started to relax a little.

“I thought we were a little tense, but their confidence was quite low, so you have to be careful with that.

“I told them they were playing in a great club, there are expectations and demands for you, and you need to wear them, and I thought they had solved it, the last 10-15 minutes of the first half, and for sure the second 45, they were excellent.”

“He was brought to try to reconnect the team with the fans and lift the whole mood. The way the game stretched out, he was probably unable to get better from two goals.

“As much as he didn’t want to come from two goals down, these fans were sure to enjoy.

“We talked for a long time about how little time of Barry Ferguson’s coaching staff had to work with the players, and then Barry talked about how he wanted his team to play, and the ultimate goal was to win the games from him.”
