India’s national cricket team captain Rohit Sharma, who is under a lot of pressure, will be in the nets along with the Mumbai Ranji team. According to reports in the Times of India, the captain will train with the national team ahead of the second round of the 2024-25 Ranji Trophy.
Mumbai will play their first match of the second round of Ranji Trophy 2024-25 against Jammu and Kashmir. The match between the teams is scheduled to take place from January 23 at the BKC Mumbai Cricket Association ground.

Rohit has reportedly informed the team that he will train with them and there are chances that he could play the 2024-25 Ranji Trophy match against Jammu and Kashmir. Reports claimed that the BCCI has informally advised all Indian players to play in the domestic circuit when there are no international commitments.
A source close to Times of India claims that Rohit Sharma, along with Shreyas Iyer, Shardul Thakur and Ajinkya Rahane, will be there for training on Tuesday (January 14). He also confirmed that the captain wants to play the Ranji Trophy match against J&K.

he said: “Rohit, Ajinkya Rahane, Shreyas lyer (who was recently appointed captain of Punjab Kings) and Shardul Thakur will train with the Mumbai team at Wankhede Stadium on Tuesday and then at BKC on Wednesday and Thursday. Rohit told MCA that he will come to practice. At the moment there are all indications that he wants to play the match against J&K,”
The move to Ranji Trophy 2024-25 comes after Rohit Sharma had a poor performance with the bat in the last few Tests he played. The captain of the Indian national cricket team has failed in the entire Test season at home and also struggled to hit in the 2024-25 Border-Gavaskar Trophy.

Due to his poor form, Rohit then took a tough decision to sit out the final match of the 2024-25 Border-Gavaskar Trophy. In the three games he played in the series he scored only 31 runs at an average of just 6. Overall in the last 8 games he collected 164 runs at just above 10.
Rohit Sharma’s place in the team as a captain as well as a batsman has come under extensive scrutiny. However, since he has now decided to play in a Ranji Trophy match, it will be a great opportunity for him to regain his form and gain confidence.
Rohit is all set to lead India in the ICC Champions Trophy 2025. There were reports which claimed that after the tournament BCCI will look for his successor and will appoint a new skipper in Tests and ODIs.
