Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Rodrigo Bentancur has revealed he is “all good” after requiring extensive treatment during the first half of Wednesday’s Carabao Cup semi-final win over Liverpool.
Bentancur crumpled to the lawn at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium inside the opening for ten minutes. The Uruguayan international was not in contact with other players and appeared to hit his head on the ground while attacking a corner kick. The midfielder was left lying face down, causing serious concern for both sets of players.
After nearly ten minutes of treatment on the field, Bentancur was taken off the field to applause.
Spurs secured a Victory 1-0 in his absence, but fans had even more reason to celebrate when Bentancur posted a positive message on social media after the game. “Congratulations!” read the message above the smiling photo of the player and his partner. “Thank you for your messages. Congratulations on the win guys.”

Tottenham boss Ange Postecoglou was asked about the incident after the game. “It was also worrying [a head injury] is always a concern, but we think at this stage he will be fine,” the manager stressed. “He was conscious on the way to the dressing room.”
When they pushed him into the kind of injury that Bentancur had sustained, Postecoglou could only offer doubts: “I don’t want to speculate because I don’t really know either. All I know is that he was conscious when he came out.
“Obviously there was some kind of head injury, but he was conscious when he came off the field. And he was taken to the hospital for observation. But I’m not quite sure how it happened.
“Unless I bring in a doctor, I’m not going to speculate because it’s just not fair to the people around him. The players were concerned so obviously something was going on.”
Spurs travel to the home of fifth division Tamworth in the third round of the FA Cup on Sunday lunchtime before next Wednesday’s north London derby at Arsenal’s Emirates Stadium. While Bentancur is unlikely to feature in either of those games, it remains to be seen whether he will be available for the second leg of the semi-final against Liverpool at Anfield in the first week of February.
