Rangers chief executive Patrick Stewart has revealed that Philippe Clement will remain as the club’s manager despite growing fan pressure.
Former Manchester United boss Stewart – who took up his role at Ibrox less than a month ago – admits it would have been an “easy decision” to sack the Belgian manager following fan frustration. However, he insists his time at Old Trafford proves that constant changes of manager are not effective.
Stewart warned that results must improve without the “cast iron guarantees” offered to Clement, whose side have won just three away league games this season and went into the weekend 15 points behind Celtic. He also rejected the suggestion that a lack of finances was behind the decision to keep the 50-year-old in charge.
A “roots review of the entire football department” will begin on Monday with outside help – lasting six to 12 weeks – as he seeks to tackle the problems that have bedeviled the club on and off the pitch in recent seasons.
He also revealed that the club will look to add “one or two” players in the January transfer window with a centre-back a priority to pursue from December.
