Pamela Anderson tells Martha Stewart her mother invited her to pose for Playboy to cure her shyness
Pamela Anderson She has opened up about her early days as a Playboy model to Martha Stewart.
During the interview for Elle’s digital issue in January 2025, Stewart spoke with Anderson about her recent film “The Last Showgirl,” and her Oscar Snub.
As they dive into their careers, Anderson and Stewart take a trip down memory lane to when they were first introduced to fame.
“Back to the movie. I can’t stop thinking about that man in the audition scene. … It’s happened to all of us. Those auditions that are just so funny and so shameless. You get a real feel for it,” Stewart said, referencing Anderson’s latest film.
Pamela replied: “I love that she doesn’t take no for an answer. She almost walks away, but then she turns around and says, ‘What didn’t you like?’ ” As much as she wore her heart on her sleeve in questioning her life choices, she fought back.”
“I had such an experience, when I was very young, I went as a model. They asked all the girls to bring bikinis, and after my interview with about 15 guys who were sitting at the table, they said: “Take care Go into your bikini” , Stewart said.
“And I said, ‘Does the part require a bikini?’ ” And the guy said, “No, but we’ve got you here, so we might as well take a look at you.” And I just walked out of the room. [years old] At the time, but I just wouldn’t stop with that shit.

“That’s the way I’ve been all along, I just wouldn’t take it,” Stewart said. “When you see other girls put on it because they need money or they need a job, it’s a tough situation. I think it could be getting better after all these years.”
Anderson sympathized with Stewart and explained that her mother was a big reason she decided to pose for Playboy in October 1989.
“It’s hard to navigate a company based on physical beauty and also being naive. You’re in this business and you want to please people. And you feel like that’s not the right thing to do, and you can get involved in these dangerous situations,” he said. Anderson.
“When playboy cover [opportunity] She came, my mom said, “Do it.”
“I was Such a shy young girl, If you can believe it – I wanted to do anything to stop being shy. When playboy cover [opportunity] She came, my mom said, “Do it.” I didn’t know what it would lead to, but then it led to this wild and crazy life,” Anderson concluded.

“It’s a woman’s choice to be in a magazine. It was my choice to be in a magazine, I didn’t do anything I was uncomfortable with. My first reaction was no, and I talked to my mother. And she said, Why not? Associated Press at that time.
“I’ve never been on a plane before, I’ve never been out of my small town and I was scared to death. I’ve gotten over a lot of my painful shyness. That’s for sure.”
Now that she is Playboy days Behind her, Anderson lives a quiet life in Ladysmith, British Columbia. The “Baywatch” star has decided to return to acting, as well as gardening and moving her parents to her property.

“The Last Showgirl,” which debuted in 2024, earned Anderson Golden Globe and SAG nominations, but no Oscar nods.
“Congratulations on the Golden Globe nomination. I don’t think you have an Oscar,” Stewart told Anderson.

Pamela replied: “No, no Oscar nomination, but I couldn’t have imagined that. I got a nomination for Carpet, which is really exciting and … it’s all just unexpected and exciting. I always say that winning is in the work.
