Man Utd in danger of missing out on Patrick Dorgu as the Serie A giants close in on a transfer deal

Manchester United are at risk of missing out on Lecce star Patrick Dorgu after Napoli made a late bid to seize the job, a report claims.

United want a new left back and, with contract for Nun Mendes from Paris Saint-Germain seems unlikely the focus turned to 20-year-old Dorgu.

Dorgu has long been of interest to a number of top teams, but United’s pursuit appears to have woken up potential rivals, with Gianluca Di Marzio stating that Napoli wants to get a agreement for the Danish representative across the line quickly.

Napoli see Dorgu as more of a winger – 14 of his 22 appearances this season have come in attacking positions – and are chasing a deal that would see the 20-year-old stay at Lecce on loan until the end of the season.

Valued at €40m (£33.8m), Napoli are said to be “very close” to a deal for Dorgu, but things could change dramatically if United offer a similar fee as he looks to join the Red Devils this month.

Dorgu, self-denying Chelsea fan, has publicly confirmed that he dreams of playing in the Premier League and admitted that his connection with the Blues would not prevent him from joining another team in the English top flight.

United are expected to speak to Dorgu’s agent along with a number of other suitors, after which a decision will be made on his future.
