WSL Predictions: Gameweek 11


The Women’s Super League (WSL) returns from its winter break this weekend with six action-packed matches taking place over three days.

Chelsea are currently the ones to beat at the top of the WSL table, with Manchester City, Arsenal and Manchester United trying to keep pace. Both Crystal Palace and Leicester City are in a tight battle at the bottom of the table, with West Ham United a short distance away.

The Etihad Stadium is preparing to host the Manchester derby, while down south the stage is set for two London derbies, with West Ham hosting Chelsea and Arsenal facing Crystal Palace.

This season’s surprise package Brighton & Hove Albion will be eager to extend their impressive run as they travel to St. Helen’s to face Liverpool on Friday night.

Dario Vidošić’s Galebov team will be hoping to maintain their momentum in the top five until the meeting in Merseyside. As for Liverpool, Matt Beard’s side will be looking to rectify a disappointing start to the 2024/25 season. The Reds are currently eighth in the league table, but a poor nine points sees them just four points off the bottom.

Prediction: Liverpool 1-3 Brighton

The two struggling sides will clash this Saturday when Everton host Aston Villa at Walton Hall Park. Despite having just eight points in a row, the Toffees pulled off one of the biggest WSL turnarounds in the first half of the league after beating Man City in their final game before the Christmas break.

Aston Villa are going through a turbulent period following the sacking of Roberto de Pauw last month, as interim head coach Shaun Goater prepares to take over.

Villans are in the 2024/25 season so far. have been far from outstanding, currently holding just nine points to their name despite an impressive summer transfer window.

Brian Sorensen’s Everton side will be boosted by their winter signings and will be hungry to challenge Villa at home.

Prediction: Everton 2-2 Aston Villa

Despite the wide gap between the two sides in the league table, just five points separate Tottenham and Leicester City ahead of this game at Brisbane Road. The teams have met on eight occasions, and the Foxes have managed just one win in all the meetings.

Spurs fans were quick to question head coach Robert Vilahamn’s philosophy at the start of the season, but the side’s performance in the Premier League has been far from disappointing. They currently sit sixth in the WSL table and a win against the struggling Foxes will surely boost morale in North London.

Amandine Miquel’s side have just one win so far this season, just one point from last place. The Foxes will need to show their teeth against Spurs’ defensive vulnerabilities if they are to give their 2024/25 campaign a pulse. However, squad depth will remain an issue for Miquel as they travel to the capital.

Prediction: Tottenham 3-1 Leicester City

Top Gunners stepped into 2025 in a good mood. Arsenal they haven’t lost a game since last October and will surely be favorites again this weekend.

Bottom-placed Crystal Palace will be desperate to get a point out of the match, but the odds could be against them. Palace fell victim to back-to-back defeats when facing the top teams this season, losing 7-0 to Chelsea and 3-0 to Manchester City.

Arsenal are expected to maintain their stellar form when they return to Meadow Park this Sunday.

Prediction: Arsenal 4-0 Crystal Palace

The London derby awaits at the Chigwell Construction Stadium as West Ham United prepare to host Chelsea. The Irons have done enough to separate themselves from the bottom of the table, but are still just three points clear of the drop zone.

Chelsea dropped their first points of the 2024/25 season just before the Christmas break, following a hard-fought 1-1 draw at Leicester City, where Sonia Bompastor’s winning streak came to an end.

West Ham have done well to challenge the Blues with narrow results in the past, but have not managed a win against their London rivals in 15 meetings.

Prediction: West Ham 0-2 Chelsea

The Manchester derby awaits at the Etihad Stadium as the Cityzens look to avenge their league form against their city rivals. Injury-riddled Gareth Taylor will be hoping his side can turn the tide in what has been a turbulent few months.

As regards Manchester Uniteda win against their city foes will see them leap into the top three in the league standings. Marc Skinner’s side have injury luck on their side and will be hoping to capitalize on the injured Man City the party entering into the conflict.

Although the Cityzens would be the usual favorites ahead of the derby, United might just get a result and paint the city red.

Prediction: Manchester City 1-2 Manchester United
