The Villans have wasted little time this month, first landing Donyello Malen from Borussia Dortmund and then moving swiftly to sign Levante’s young right-back Garcia in two deals that should improve Unai Emeryteams. It will certainly be interesting to watch Matty Cash and Garcia battle it out for that starting right-back role, with the former perhaps left to watch from the bench.
The Midlands club may not be done there either when it comes to arrivals. I like it Loic Bade they have also been mentioned in recent weeks in a move he could see outgoing Diego Carlos replaced.

Having welcomed the versatile Malen, it wouldn’t be too much of a surprise to see Villa focus on other areas within their squad, but the interest in Catamo suggests they are still looking for attacking additions.

Catam’s arrival could cause a headache for the selection of Emery
While selection headaches are often seen as a positive for managers, especially those in the Champions League, Emery could manage without repeating the situation he found himself in with Jaden Philogene. The young winger returned to Villa Park on a permanent basis last summer but immediately struggled for playing time again as the quality of Emery’s squad grew.
After Philogene’s struggles, there’s no guarantee that a player of Catamo’s caliber won’t face the same problem, especially amid new competition from Malen in the role. Even at the age of 23, the Sporting winger cannot afford to waste time looking at the reserves.
A big decision for Catamo could still be looming if Villa, Wolves or Fulham come in the summer. Regardless of whether he decides to stay with Sporting, he is scored four goals and assisted four more whether he moves on this season remains to be seen, but Villa Park may not be his wisest choice at this stage.
There is no doubting his potential, but Catamo needs game time to realize that potential which Aston Villa simply cannot guarantee at this stage.
