Erling Haaland delivers verdict on Man City’s 115 charges after signing new contract
Erling Haaland has backed Manchester City to clear their name in their ongoing legal battle against the Premier League.
City have been charged with 115 alleged breaches of the league’s financial rules, and many speculate that Pep Guardiola’s ruling could force Pep Guardiola’s side out of England’s top flight.
That doesn’t seem to be a concern for Haaland as a 24-year-old signed one of the biggest contracts in football history to be tied to City until 2034.
When asked if he himself arranged a possible way out if City thrown out at the end of the legal dispute, Haaland simply laughed: “No.”
“I wasn’t thinking about it or anything,” he continued. “I’m sure the club knows what they’re doing. And, yes, in the end… I really don’t think I should say much about this.
“I’ve been here for two and a half years, so, yes, I’m convinced that the club knows what it’s doing.”
Haaland’s new contract comes as a huge blow to the likes of them Real Madrid and Barcelonawho planned to take advantage of an increasingly feasible release clause in his previous contract. When asked if he could still join Madrid or another European giant in the future, Haaland once again found humor in the question.
He replied: “To Madrid? I’ve just signed a nine-and-a-half-year contract with City, what can I say?
“I’m happy not to play for any of those teams, and with my choice. I’m looking forward to spending many more years in Manchester, and that’s all, really.”
