Tottenham Hotspur manager Ange Postecoglou has insisted his faith in his project is unwavering despite Sunday’s loss to Evertonbut admitted new signings were key to the turnaround.
A shock performance in the first half looked to be the final nail in Postecoglou’s coffin. Spurs 3-0 down against the relegation-threatened Toffees, only for a spirited second half to show Postecoglou remained upbeat.
“If you look at the situation we’re in, it will eventually unravel,” Postecoglou said Sky Sports after the game. “I certainly hope and believe that he will.
“We will give ourselves a chance to achieve consistency in performance and results. I certainly haven’t lost faith or determination to turn things around, and the players showed in the second half that they didn’t either.”
Despite this, Postecoglou admitted that his team is still struggling with injuries – the striker Dominic Solanke was the last to leave the game due to a knee injury – should force Spurs to act before the transfer window closes.
“We’re pretty stretched,” he said. “We literally had 11 players fit enough to start the game. We didn’t have full control of our organization and Everton took advantage of that and we paid the price for that. [Dragusin] had to take it off due to a deep cut and restructuring.
“It will be urgent [in the transfer market] but I don’t need to say that, everyone can see that. I have no problem with the way the club is going about it, they are working hard and trying to find solutions. These players need help, that’s for sure, and we hope to find a solution in the next ten days. It’s really inconvenient, we’re not the only ones on the market. The club is trying very hard.”
