A drugged driver behind the wheel of a speeding Mustang caused a crash in which a police officer was seriously injured: police
AND Brentwood, New York man was arrested after allegedly speeding on the Long Island Expressway (LIE) while under the influence of drugs and causing a crash that critically injured an officer, according to police.
Court records show 29-year-old Cody Fisher faces several charges, including driving while ability impaired by drugssecond-degree assault, second-degree unlawful fleeing of a police officer in a motor vehicle and driving while suspended.
Suffolk County Police said Patrolman Brendon Gallagher was conducting a traffic stop around 6 p.m. Sunday on the westbound side of the LIE when a 2021 Ford Mustang drove by at a high rate of speed.
Gallagher, who is a member of the Street Takeover Task Force, responded to the speeding vehicle and activated his lights and sirens before attempting to pull over the driver of the Mustang.
Police said the driver of the Mustang, later identified as Fisher, lost control of the car and sideswiped Gallagher’s patrol car.
The collision sent Gallagher’s patrol car off the highway and overturned.

Fisher’s Mustang also ran off the highway and struck a light pole, police said.
Off duty Nassau County Sheriff who was passing by at the time of the accident, reportedly stopped to help and eventually arrested Fisher.
Police said Gallagher, who was listed in critical condition, was taken to Stony Brook University Hospital, while Fisher was taken to South Shore University Hospital in Bay Shore to be treated for non-life-threatening injuries.

He was arraigned Monday in First District Court in Central Islip and pleaded not guilty to the charges.
