Desantis faces the resistance of GOP to a special legislative session on immigration that starts today
Special legislative session convened by Florida Ron Desantis Governor to consider a number of proposals to help implement the President Donald TrumpThe suffocation of immigration begins on Monday.

Governor wants to order that Florida environments The cities and the cities participate in the federal deportation program and wants to suspend the powers of non -complying officers. Trump’s administration quickly moves to the implementation of immigration
“We need to be sure that we are working hand in hand with Trump’s administration,” Desantis emphasized last week in an interview with Fox News “Ingraham Angle”.
He added that a special legislative session “would help to facilitate the mission of Trump’s administration”.

On the eve of a special session, Florida legislators submitted eleven bills. Among them are measures to create a state immigration emperor and for allowing a governor to activate the national and state guards for Immigration implementation.
According to the Constitution of Florida, if the governor requests a special session, MPs are obliged to appear in the capital in Tallahassee. However, the highest Republicans in the State House of Representatives and Senate say that although they support Trump’s immigration efforts, a special session is not needed since the regular legislative session is scheduled for the beginning of March.
“It’s not premature,” Desantis told Fox News. “We’ve been waiting for four years to have a partner in Washington, DC, for this question. We have a sense of urgency. We have to do a job. No more procrastination.”
Desantis, who led a bitter and unsuccessful election fight against Trump for the Republican Presidential Nomination 2024, praised the then newly elected President earlier this month.
“Thank you Rone, hopefully other governors will follow us!” Trump wrote in social networks post after Desantis announced a special session.

However, the opposition of GOP state legislators for convening a special session is a dramatic reversal of events for Desantis, who has long enjoyed a huge impact on Florida’s legislation, especially after his re-election with almost 20 points 2022.

After his unsuccessful candidacy for the White House in 2024, the Governor of the limp duck seems to have the same impact on the legislatives he once had.
Concerning the opposition to his plans, Desantis warned that every MP would pay him a political price.
