Sir Jim Ratcliffe’s views on Ruben Amorim’s Marcus Rashford decision revealed
Manchester United officials will not interfere with Ruben Amorim’s decision to drop Marcus Rashford from his matchday squads, a report has revealed.
Rashford was first dropped for the Manchester derby, after which he admitted his desire to “a new challenge“. He has since been left out of two more matchday squads, with Amorim openly admitting his absence was a technical decision rather than a disciplinary matter.
According to Daily Mailauthorities on United they’re happy to let Amorim make those decisions about the team and won’t put the head coach under any pressure while the holdout lasts.
Co-owner Sir Jim Ratcliffe, director Sir Dave Brailsford, chief executive Omar Berrada and technical director Jason Wilcox will not urge the Amors to end Rashford’s exile, nor will they demand he return to the squad.
While there is an acknowledgment that Rashford’s presence on the bench is far from ideal – not least because of his wages in excess of £300,000-a-week – the United hierarchy will put their trust in Amorim to resolve any selection issues.
Amorim, for his part, is never closed the door on Rashford for good. Indeed, he has emphasized his desire to keep the striker at Old Trafford and has repeatedly insisted that players receive a fresh list after each matchday.
Alejandro Garnacho, who was also dropped for the Manchester derby, has since been used from the bench in United’s last two games, suggesting there is a way back for players accused of letting their standards slip behind the scenes.
