The casket of former President Jimmy Carter left his home state of Georgia from the Carter Presidential Center in Washington DC.
His remains will travel with his family on Special Air Mission 39 from Dobbins Air Reserve Base to Joint Base Andrews in Maryland.
When he arrives in Washington, he will lie in the US Capitol for two days.
