UK stocks rise at close of trade; Investing.com United Kingdom 100 rose 0.79% Investing.com
Investing.com – U.K. stocks were higher after the close on Thursday, as gains in the , and sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in London, the exchange rate gained 0.79% to hit a new one-month high.
The best performers of the session were Anglo-American PLC (LON: ), which rose 3.30% or 78.00 points to 2,439.50 at the close. Meanwhile, Antofagasta PLC (LON: ) added 3.25% or 54.00 points to end at 1,718.00 and Fresnillo PLC (LON: ) was up 3.24% or 21.00 points to 669.00 at the close.
The worst performers of the session were B&M European Value Retail SA (LON: ), which fell 8.52% or 29.70 points to 318.90 at the close. Marks and Spencer Group PLC (LON:) declined 8.36% or 31.50 points to 345.30 and Entain PLC (LON:) was down 4.42% or 30.00 points to 648.80.
On the London Stock Exchange, rising stocks outnumbered declining ones by 909 to 788, while 595 stocks ended unchanged.
Shares of B&M European Value Retail SA (LON:) fell to 52-week lows; falling 8.52% or 29.70 to 318.90.
Gold futures for February delivery rose 0.46% or 12.24 to $2,684.64 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, crude oil for delivery in February rose 1.20% or 0.88 to $74.20 a barrel, while Brent crude for March delivery rose 1.27% or 0.97 to $77.13 per barrel.
GBP/USD fell 0.41% to 1.23, while EUR/GBP was unchanged 0.25% to 0.84.
US dollar index futures rose 0.06% to 109.00.
