The operation of the Committee for Constitutional Reforms stopped the BCB after several boycotts
The Bangladesh Cricket Board took a major decision to halt all operations of the Constitutional Reforms Committee at its 17th Board of Directors meeting. The meeting took place at the iconic Sher-E-Bangla State Stadium in Mirpur, Dhaka.
The Constitutional Reform Committee came under scrutiny after they proposed some wholesale changes to the Committee’s Constitution. The committee was led by BCB director Nazmul Abedin.
A few days ago, Dhaka Club organizers also threatened a boycott for new constitutional reforms. Four days later they even boycotted domestic first division cricket which left the lives of several local cricketers in danger.

The operations of the Committee for Constitutional Reform have been halted by the BCB
A five-member committee for constitutional reform was formed by the BCB led by Nazmul Abedin. The personal secretary of the president of the National Sports Council, Saiful Islam, has become the secretary of this committee.
The three other members of the committee are Kamruzzaman, legal advisor to the committee, Supreme Court lawyer Barrister Shyikh Mahdi and AKM Azad Hossain. However, the work of this committee has been suspended by the board as of now.
There were some bold proposals from this committee which included disbanding the CCDM and significantly reducing the number of category 2 councilors on the General Council.
In another reform, the board asked to reduce the number of directors representing Dhaka-based clubs from 12 to 4. The organizers of the Dhaka club strongly objected to this reform while raising their voices for the boycott.
The total number of directors would be reduced from 25 to 21 under the proposed changes. As a result, the clubs made the decision to boycott the league. This prompted BCB to make quick decisions. The future of around 1500-2000 cricket would be in jeopardy if the league was postponed.
The director of BCB talks about the suspension
BCB Director Mhabub Anam stated that the constitutional reform committee process needs transparency. He also mentioned that some changes in the board are needed and that more stakeholders should be involved.
“They [reform committee] he did not present anything to the committee or the NSC. The Board of Directors considered that the procedure [of the committee] It should be a little more transparent because the Constitution is something that cannot have such secrecy. “
“It is public information that will be public. We felt that their activities should be suspended, and the discussion that is happening should be stopped,” said board director Mahbub Anam after the meeting, “said Mahbub.
“In the same way, changes in the committees and their expansion are necessary because it is important that the stakeholders are involved, the committee felt. In light of these, these decisions were made.”
“We will announce the scope of the committee’s work before any changes and expansion decisions are made. We have decided to suspend the activities of the Constitution Reform Committee,” he added.
The BCB announced a permanent board and hinted at the possibility of temporary elections. And no. The submissions in the committee are empty headed by the chairman of the committee Faruque Ahmed.
Ahmed took over the role after former BCB president Nazmul Hassan left the country after the ruling Awami League government. Since then, Nazmul Hassan has not returned to the country.
