West Ham are looking for a “real goalscorer” who has been compared to Freddie Kanoute

West Ham United they have made an inquiry for a “real goalscorer” who plays like one of the club’s cult heroes, according to a new report.

West Ham latest news

West Ham manager Graham Potter said his side “must find solutions going forward” after losing 2-0 to Crystal Palace at the London Stadium last weekend.

Jean-Philippe Mateta’s return to form was enough to seal all three points for the Eagles, who have now won three of their last four Premier League games – a run of form that has seen them jump up to 12th. Potter’s Hammers, meanwhile, have won just three of their last 10 and are currently in 14th place.

West Ham are preparing a bid for the 169-goal striker following a request from Graham Potter

The Hammers boss is looking for a new number nine.

“In terms of today’s performance, we weren’t that happy and obviously we’re disappointed with the result because I don’t think we deserved to get anything from the game.” said Potter after the Palace defeat.

“We’ve got to accept that as much as it’s not nice to hear, we’ve got to be honest with ourselves and say ‘Okay, we’ve got to be better, we’ve got to find a way to be better’ and there’s a process, there’s a job and that’s what we need to do.”

Update on West Ham’s pursuit of a new striker

West Ham’s biggest problem this season has come in front of goal. Summer signing Niclas Füllkrug has spent most of his career at the London Stadium injured so far, with the Germany international limited to just a handful of starts in all competitions.

On the other hand, club record goalscorer Michail Antonio is expected to miss the rest of the season after being involved in a horrific car accident. Jarrod Bowen is also now sidelined, while Danny Ings, despite his form, has scored just one goal in 14 games.

To help solve their problems in front of goal, the Hammers are reportedly considering a move for RB Leipzig and Portugal striker Andre Silva. According to TBR Football, West Ham have asked Leipzig about signing the 29-year-oldwho now found himself on the outskirts of the Red Bull Arena.

Leipzig technical director Christopher Vivell previously described Silvawho scored over 150 goals in his career for club and country, as a “real goalscorer”.

“He’s a complete striker. He can finish with both feet, he’s strong in the air and he’s technically gifted.”

The Bundesliga’s official website also once compared Silva to West Ham cult hero Freddie Kanoute, who scored 33 goals in three-and-a-half seasons with the Hammers between 2000 and 2003.

“With unwavering composure and a poaching nose in the opposition box, it’s no wonder Silva has drawn comparisons to club legend Fredi Kanoute during the early part of his season-long loan spell with Sevilla,” reads a passage on the website. “He’s not the fastest in the race, but his speed of thought makes him such an effective centre-forward, punctuated by an uncanny knack for being in the right place at the right time.”
