Kluivert hat-trick helps Cherries end Magpies’ winning streak

Bournemouth ended Newcastle’s nine-game winning streak with a brilliant away performance in a 4-1 win at St James’ Park.

Justin Kluivert scored a superb hat-trick before Milos Kerkez added a fourth as Andoni Iraola’s men recovered from Bruno Guimaraes’ first-half equalizer as the visitors deservedly won.

With the win, Višnje extended their unbeaten streak to 11 games in all competitions, which has lifted them to at least sixth place in the table so far.

Newcastle v Bournemouth as it happened

Newcastle were in Premier League form before kick-off, but Bournemouth caught the hosts napping early on, producing several chances that went over the bar in the opening stages.

They got the goal they deserved under pressure after six minutes when Antoine Semenyo found space on the left before Kluivert neatly found the bottom corner.

The Magpies appeared to be struggling to get into gear but found themselves level in the simplest form when Bruno Guimaraes found a free header from Lewis Hall’s corner to equalize in an unsurprisingly entertaining start.

Newcastle looked to have the momentum but were caught out again when Semenyo once again released Kluivert, who once again slotted past Martin Dubravka to restore Bournemouth’s lead.

Bournemouth beat Newcastle

The frenetic nature of the game continued in the second half, although it was Bournemouth who remained the biggest threat in front of goal as the Toon struggled to find the advantage they previously held.

Bournemouth thought they deservedly took a 3-1 lead through Dang Ouattara, but after a VAR review, it was rightly disallowed after the ball went out of play in stoppage time.

Newcastle had another lucky escape when David Brooks’ touch from Semeny’s cross deflected off Tino Livrament and bounced off the post.

A tense finish followed before Bouremouth could begin to celebrate a deserved victory when Kluivert completed his hat-trick brilliantly with a long-range strike that left Dubravka grounded.

Anthony Gordon was denied the chance for a shock late comeback when his effort was blocked on the line.

But it was indeed confirmed as Bournemouth’s day when Kerkez raced to clear the other end before slotting a stepover and clinically finding the net.
