Spurs are looking to sign “one of the best CMs” for £42m
Tottenham Hotspur they enter the January transfer window in a desperate situation, with the owner Daniel Levy he urgently needs to open his checkbook to turn his fortune around.
Ange Postecoglouthe team currently ranks 12th in the Premier League table, already 12 points off the top four positions, having failed to win any of their last four outings as a result of the ongoing injury crisis.
Such problems meant that members of the first team had to play in unfamiliar roles, which undoubtedly contributed to a lack of form and a subsequent low ranking in the league.
However, the club have already completed the deal for goalkeeper Antonin Kinsky from Slavia Prague, looking to provide quality between the sticks following Fraser Forster’s failed attempt to fill the void left by the injured Guglielmo Vicario.
More signings are still needed in various areas of the pitch, with efforts made in recent days to try and strengthen Postecoglou’s current midfield department.
Spurs are making inquiries to sign the £42m talent
According to TEAMtalk, The Spurs inquired to bring in Inter Milan midfielder Davide Frattesi in January as the club aim to add depth to the first-team squad.
However, the Lilywhites are not alone in their pursuit of the Italian, with Newcastle United and Manchester United also monitoring the 25-year-old’s progress during the ongoing window.
Frattesi had a hard time getting minutes during 2024/25. starting only four times and has played a total of just 585 minutes in Serie A, with Simone Inzaghi’s side currently in third place.
Despite the lack of minutes, Inter does not want to part with the star, but they could sell him if they receive an offer in the region of €50m (£42m)where no cash plus player deals are expected to be accepted.
It would be another big signing if Spurs win the race for his signature, but he would provide a major upgrade for a player currently plying his trade in north London.
Why Frattesi would be an upgrade on Bentancur for Spurs
Midfielder Rodrigo Bentancur has been a key member of Postecoglou’s side of late, that is when he has been available after serving various suspensions over the past few months.
The Uruguayan was hit by a seven match ban by the FA for using a racial slur, before being suspended for Saturday’s defeat against Newcastle after picking up his fifth yellow card of the campaign.
However, he was often the club’s most impressive option in the center of the team when called upon, often appearing alongside Dejan Kulusevski in the middle of the park during 2024/25.
Such a partnership could be severed again by the end of the month if any deal is reached for Frattesi’s services, with the Italian set to allow the 27-year-old to upgrade based on their current season figures.

The Inter star, who was previously dubbed as “one of the best midfielders in Serie A” by journalist Fabrizio Romano, recorded more progressive transfers on 90 along with more passing balls providing an additional attacking threat in the middle of Ange’s side.
Yves Bissouma and Pape Sarr often provided defensive solidity in the department, opening the door for another box-to-box option in the form of Frattesi.
Italian also has completed more takeovers than Bentancurwhile taking more shots on 90 – showing the talent he could provide in transition for Postecoglou’s side should he move.
The £42m fee being touted for his services would be another big investment, but the club desperately need it if they are to stop the current rot they are in.
Frattesi would provide serious quality, with his ability to feature for a title-challenging side undoubtedly a huge bonus to help them finally end their nearly two-decade wait for a trophy of any form.
