Seahawks champ Richard Sherman backs Pete Carroll to save Chicago Bears

Richard Sherman knows Pete Carroll better than most. The former Seattle Seahawks cornerback and Carroll played in back-to-back Super Bowls in 2013 and 2014. To this day, Carroll holds the only Super Bowl victory in franchise history.

On Thursday’s edition of “Up and Adams,” Sherman backed Carroll to fix everything that’s wrong with the Bears, including one point of contention he feels isn’t being considered enough.

(0:11) “I think he’s going to get the coaching job just because he’s building a culture,” Sherman said. “And I think everybody got into that sweet mindset of offensive genius, our defensive genius and they forgot about building a team culture, and that’s built with young quarterbacks.

“He was built with quarterbacks that people rejected. And he’s had success building defenses. All the pieces are there to make him really successful.”

Of course, one can argue with the Seahawks having won ten games this season under rookie head coach Mike Macdonald, Carroll’s departure is far from a drain on the organization. As such, one may wonder about his effect on the Bears should he make it to the Windy City.

Exploring what Pete Carroll should change about the Bears

A potential head coach would have a lot on his plate and not much time to pull it off. On top of his starting duties, he’ll have to change the culture in the building and change everything else he sees outside of the organization from top to bottom to elevate the team as he did with Seattle Seahawks.

If he were to be hired in January, then he would need to hire an offensive and defensive coordinator. Then he should hire additional position coaches.

After that, Pete Carroll should come up with and communicate his NFL draft recommendations to general manager Ryan Poles. After that, he’ll have to work through OTAs and make plans for training camp.

After doing all that, Carroll should figure out how to get to the players in orchestrating the changes. At the same time, he should reveal what he is doing Caleb Williams and what not. Then he can start working on the scheme for the 2025 season.

The plan could be his biggest contribution to the team and potentially their best hope for a quick win over the Detroit Lions, Minnesota Vikings and the Green Bay Packers in the divisional race.

Simply put, if he’s hired, it’s going to be a jam-packed few months for Carroll before he’s even in a position to establish tangential plans for the 2025-26 season. In other words, it might be all Carroll can do to tread water in 2025.
