Spencer Johnson’s off-ball yorker surprises Tim Seifert for golden duck in BBL 2024-25 clash
The Melbourne Renegades may have thrashed the Brisbane Heat by three wickets in Game 38 of the ongoing Big Bash League 2024-25 (BBL 2024-25) on Saturday, January 18, but it was Spencer Johnson who made his bowling do the talking at Docklands Stadium in Melbourne.
In the 12th over of Melbourne Renegades’ chase in Melbourne, Brisbane Heat bowler Spencer Johnson troubled two batsmen with magical deliveries. Johnson removed Oliver Peake for 19 runs and Tim Seifert for a golden duck with an absolute beauty at Melbourne’s Docklands Stadium.

On the second delivery of the 12th over, Spencer Johnson, already pumped up after removing Peake, bowled a full toss and straight into the stumps and Oliver Peake tried to pull back and play a big shot but missed completely. The blazing batting lit up and Peake had to return after scoring 19 off 21 balls in Saturday’s BBL 2024-25 clash.
But the dismissal of New Zealand wicketkeeper-batsman Tim Seifert left everyone wondering for Johnson. On the third ball of the same over, Spencer Johnson delivered a perfect yorker at the base of the stumps, which was too good for the new batsman, Seifert. Tim Seifert failed to bring down his bat in time and was awarded the golden duck.

With these quick wickets, Johnson brought Brisbane Heat back into the game, but Jake Fraser-McGurk’s outstanding 95-run knock was enough to see Melbourne Renegades over the line with 12 balls to spare and three wickets in hand in the Big Bash League. 2024-25 clash in Melbourne.
Talking about the BBL 2024-25 clash, Melbourne Renegades won the toss and invited Brisbane Heat to bat first in Melbourne. Brisbane managed to post 196/4 on the board in their 20 overs, thanks to valuable contributions from Jack Wood (40), Matt Renshaw (40) and Tom Alsop (42*).
For the Renegades, Adam Zampa and Callum Stow combined for four wickets against the Heat. In the hunt for a challenging target, Melbourne didn’t get off to a great start, losing opener Tawanda Muyeye for just three runs, but then Jake Fraser-McGurk’s explosive attack pushed the Heat back.

Jake Fraser-McGurk played an outstanding knock of an unbeaten knock of 95 runs off 46 balls laced with five boundaries and eight sixes to win the match for Melbourne Renegades. For the Heat, Spencer Johnson, Michael Neser and Paul Walter each scalped two wickets against the Renegades.
After being named man of the match, Jake Fraser-McGurk said: “I’m pleased with the way we turned out today. Everyone contributed today and we hope that some results will go our way. I just wanted to start, give the bowlers charge early. Cricket is a game where you can have a terrible day but you’re always just two shots away from turning it around. Hopefully we can qualify further, thanks to the fans who turned up today. Hopefully we can continue to perform for them this season.”
