Bumrah was absent in the final innings of the fifth Border-Gavaskar Trophy Test in Sydney. Bumrah suffered a back injury while bowling during the first innings. His absence was felt in India as Australia secured a six-wicket win. Australia won the series and a place in the World Test Championship final.
