BCCI announces India squad for ODIs in England and Champions Trophy 2025, no place for Mohammed Siraj
In a long-awaited announcement, Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) unveiled the Indian squad for the upcoming ODI series against England and ICC Champions Trophy 2025 during a press conference held at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai on Saturday, January 18. The event, which started at 1:00 PM IST, was attended by the Indian captain Rohit Sharma and the main menu Ajit Agarkar.

The squad for the three-match ODI series against England and the Champions Trophy has several notable inclusions and exclusions, reflecting the selectors’ strategic choices ahead of these crucial tournaments.

- Captain and co-captain:
Rohit Sharma will lead the team, with Axar Patel appointed vice-captain. This decision highlights the growing importance of Axar in the team as a versatile player.
Veteran pacer Mohammed Shami is included, bringing experience to the bowling line-up. His performance will be crucial as India look to regain glory in international tournaments.
Despite his stellar performance in domestic cricket, Karun Nairwho scored 752 runs in just seven innings in the Vijay Hazare Trophy, was overlooked for selection. The selectors chose not to include him due to his long absence from international cricket since 2017.
Turning on the star pacer Jasprit Bumrah he remains dependent on his recovery from a back injury sustained during the Sydney Test against Australia. Reports suggest that Bumrah is expected to take part in the Champions Trophy if he is deemed fit. For the ODI in England, the selectors included Harshit Rana in the 15-man in place of Bumrah.

Upcoming matches of India
India’s campaign begins with a three-match ODI series against England starting on February 6, followed by their Champions Trophy opener against Bangladesh on February 20. The much-awaited clash against arch-rivals Pakistan is scheduled for February 23. India will conclude the group stage with a match against New Zealand on March 2 in Dubai.
