Tottenham have confirmed the timetable for Rodrigo Bentancur’s return from a head injury

Rodrigo Bentancur will follow standard concussion protocol before returning to the Tottenham Hotspur squad, manager Ange Postecoglou has confirmed.

The Uruguayan representative was drawn in the opening phase of the competition Victory 1-0 after lying motionless on the ground following a diving header, with replays later showing Bentancur hit his head on the pitch as he fell.

The fans were immediately worried about Bentancur, but soon also about the midfielder moved to ease worries with a post on social media from the hospital claiming that everything is fine.

Postecoglou confirmed at his press conference on Friday that Bentancur has been diagnosed with a simple concussion, which will keep him on the sidelines for two weeks.

“Good news, fortunately,” Postecoglou began. “He’s been in the hospital, obviously, and he’s had all the tests in terms of just checking, to make sure everything’s OK. He’s back home and he’s fine.

“He’s feeling good. Now obviously we’re going to follow the protocols. I think it’s a couple of weeks where you just have to make sure everything’s OK. But thankfully it looks like a concussion, but nothing more than that.

“It was disturbing, you saw Pedro in particular [Porro]he was the first one there and he knew it was a difficult situation. I thought the guys handled it well and our medical team handled it well and, like I said, thankfully everything was fine.”

Two weeks on the sidelines, Bentancur will miss Sunday’s FA Cup a clash with Tamworth and a north London derby against Arsenal three days later. His latest absence is set to come at Everton next weekend, ahead of a possible return for Spurs in the Europa League against Hoffenheim on Thursday, January 23.
