Spurs are now considering signing the rich PL star
Last night was one to forget Tottenham Hotspur.
Ange Postecoglou The team had the chance to turn their season around and at the same time significantly dent Arsenal’s ambitions, but they eventually gave up a 1-0 lead to reach their 11th. Premier League campaign defeat.
Impressively, youngsters such as Archie Gray and Lucas Bergvall provided the best performances for the Lilywhites, while the older players were painfully ineffective or virtually anonymous.
Even a shooter Heung-min’s son was disappointing for much of the game, so recent reports linking the club with a potential replacement this month shouldn’t come as much of a surprise.
Tottenham chasing son’s successor
According to a recent report from Football TransfersTottenham are one of several high-profile clubs interested in signing the Manchester United star Alejandro Garnacho this month, the sale of which is not excluded.

Mega money deals, controversial moves and big name failures. This is the home of transfer news and opinion across the Football FanCast.
In fact, the report revealed that the Lilywhites have ‘targeted’ the winger, have made a ‘specific enquiry’ about his availability and could now be ready to test the Red Devils’ resolve with an offer in the region of €70m, which is around €59m pounds.
However, fans shouldn’t get too carried away just yet, as the report also named European giants Napoli and Atlético Madrid as some of the interested parties.
Getting over the line could be complicated and expensive, but given Garnach’s current ability and the potential many believe he possesses, it’s worth pursuing, especially since Son can’t be relied upon long-term.
How Garnacho compares to Son
Now, the first thing to say is that there have been few players in the Premier League as brilliant as Son in the last ten years, and when he finally hangs up his boots or moves on, he will rightly be remembered as a legend of the league.
With that said, time is catching up with us all, and with him turning 33 this summer, the club needs to find a long-term replacement, and fast, because while he can still pop in with a goal here and there, most fans will attest to the fact that he has less and less influence in the games with each campaign.
So with that in mind, how does he deal with young Garnacho? From a pure output perspective, it’s a very heated affair.
For example, in 26 appearances with a total of 1,825 minutes this season, the Spurs captain had scored eight goals and recorded seven assists for Postecoglou, which amounts to an average participation in a goal every 1.73 games, or every 121.66 minutes.
Unlike them, the young Argentine scored so much goals, but also registered five assists in 30 appearances, a total of 1641 minutes, so on average he scored every 2.30 games, or every 126.23 minutes.
So with little to separate the pair with their score, how do they stack up against each other when we look under the hood at their underlying numbers?
Interestingly, although the South Korean international leads in a number of metrics, such as progressive passes, shooting and goal-creating actions, passing accuracy and key passes at 90, he is second best overall.
For example, United’s “dangerous” gem, ace dubbed by Paul Scholesit performs better in a host of offensive metrics such as non-penalty goals plus assists, progressive carries, shots and shots on target and carries into the penalty area per 90, but it also performs significantly better for defensive ones as well.

Not only does he make and win more tackles, but he wins more aerial duels, completes more turnovers and makes more interceptions and blocks, also at 90.
What makes this even more impressive is the fact that he is so young and still has years before he reaches his prime, which for a wide forward is around 26 years old, according to to the research he conducted Athletic 2021.
Ultimately, Son is a bona fide legend, but he is nearing the end of his Premier League career and Spurs need to find a dynamic, potentially game-changing replacement, which Garnacho looks set to be.
