9th match in SA20 2025 saw Paarl Royals (PR) to face MI Cape Town (MICT) in Boland Park. The meeting was marked by a spectacular moment from Joe Rootwho proved that his bowling can be as influential as his famous batting skills. Root’s brilliant delivery resulted in MI Cape Town being dismissed George Linde.

In the 16th over of MI Cape Town’s innings, Root scored an exceptional score. With Linde at the crease, Root produced a round ball that took everyone by surprise. Linde, trying to kick, misjudged the bounce of the ball. The white leather crept under his bat and plucked his off-stump, sending him back to the pavilion for 10 runs off 10 balls. Linde’s departure left MI Cape Town with 4 wickets down.

Although Root’s performance with the bat in this match was brief, as in the 6th over of the Paarl Royals innings, Root faced New Zealand horse Trent Boult. On the penultimate ball of the powerplay, Root went expansive but was caught at mid-wicket by Ingram. The ball, bowled at 125 kmph, found Root’s edge as he crossed the line. Batting first, MI Cape Town posted a total of 158/4 in their 20 overs. The innings was anchored by Rassie van der Dussenwho masterfully played 91 runs off 64 balls. Van der Dussen’s performance, which included 1 six and 7 fours, provided the backbone for MI Cape Town’s total.
In reply, Paarl Royals needed 159 runs to secure victory, achieving the target with 6 wickets in hand. Juan-dre Pretorius he was the star of the Royals, playing an exceptional innings of 83 runs. Pretorius led his team to victory with a composed shot.
