Konstas himself reveals his regrets about the fight with Virat Kohli, Jasprit Bumrah
Young batting sensation Sam Konstas has been making headlines ever since his blockbuster Test debut in the recent Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024-25 against India. However, it wasn’t just Konstas’ fearless batting, but his audacity to get under the skin of India’s best players during the Test series.
The young Australian opener had an on-field exchange with Virat Kohli and Jasprit Bumrah during the recent five-match Test series. Sam Konstas chirped Jasprit Bumrah during the fifth and final Test in Sydney and fired up the Indian pacers to respond to the young striker by dismissing Usman Khawaja.

This led to a fierce reaction from Bumrah and the Indian players. However, days after Australia won the 2024-25 Border-Gavaskar Trophy 3-1 against India, Sam Konstas admitted his emotions may have gotten the better of him in his first two Test matches.

However, Konstas remains confident in his batting style and is eager to prove himself during Australia’s upcoming Test series in Sri Lanka. The 19-year-old batsman played two Tests against India and scored 113 runs with a debut score of 60 runs at the MCG and is now excited for the next challenge against Sri Lanka.

The Australian batsman mentioned that playing in front of a big crowd in Sri Lanka will be a completely different experience, but admitted that the emotions of playing in front of a big crowd might have affected him a little during the BGT 2024-25 series against India. He Konstas noted that Sri Lanka will be a tough team to beat in their home conditions.
Cricbuzz quoted Sam Konstas as saying, “It will be completely different with the crowd [in Sri Lanka]obviously. It was the first time I played in front of a big crowd and maybe my emotions got the better of me, reflecting on that. But it is obvious that Sri Lanka will be difficult to beat in their home conditions. I’m looking forward to it.”
Meanwhile, the right-hander said it was a great honor for him to represent his country and play in Sri Lanka. He also pointed out that Australia has a strong team, and if they get a chance to open, they will grab the opportunity with both hands.

However, Travis Head is likely to be promoted to the top flight, having previously played for the Kangaroos in Sri Lanka. Konstas further pointed out: “Obviously, it is a great honor to represent your country and go on tour in Sri Lanka. They welcomed me with open arms and I want to learn and be better. Obviously, we have a strong team.”
The Aussie gun signed off saying: “If I get the chance [to open]I hope to accept it with both hands. I feel like I’m just going to keep supporting myself. Obviously, I will adapt to my different methods. I can’t wait for that to happen. It’s a dream come true, we hope, but they (selectors) didn’t say anything.”
Notably, Australia and Sri Lanka will play a two-match Test series, starting on January 29 in Galle, followed by two ODIs.
