Celebrity chef Guy Fieri says ‘not enough’ is being done for veterans, military and EMS


Guy Fieri he doesn’t think enough is being done for America’s “unsung heroes.”

“We should be celebrating our veterans and our active duty military and our first responders every day in this country,” Fieri told Fox News Digital on Jan. 7.

“They are the unsung heroes,” he added.

Fieri pointed out that “simply not enough is being done” for citizens who dedicate their lives to being on the front lines and called for more “attention” to be given to the military and veterans.

The famous chef created Guy Fieri Foundationwhich has several programs honoring veterans and first responders for their dedication to duty and service to their communities. Fieri hosted events that provide a day of recognition through food and words of appreciation.

“I would love to help causes around the world. … But I really believe we have to take care of those people at home first. And that’s what we’re doing,” Fieri said of his foundation.

He explained it his father was part of the military, which is why he considers veterans and first responders to be very special.

“My dad…was on the submarines during Vietnam. Many members of my family served in our country. My foundation, the Guy Fieri Foundation, is about…serving those who have served us.”

On Tuesday, the Fieri Foundation shared on their Instagram Story that they were out in service LA fire first responders.

“Ready to serve our first responders yesterday in Malibu,” the first photo read, including the hashtag “serving those who protect us all.” The following video shows men and women in uniform lining up ready to eat with the caption, “Time to serve dinner to our first responders off the @losangelesfiredepartment @calfire fire lines in Malibu.”

As the “Diners, Drive-ins and Dives” host prepares for his Flavortown Tailgate party for the upcoming Super Bowl, he told Fox News Digital that his partnership with Carnival Cruise Line is doing well for those “unsung heroes.”

“We made sure 2,000 of the 10,000 tickets were cut up right away and left for them,” Fieri said, referring to active military, veterans and first responders.

This year it also partnered with Pepsi, Anheuser-Busch, King’s Hawaiian, TickPick, Sabra and GNC. Guy’s Flavortown Tailgate takes place Sunday, February 9, in New Orleans. But the first event happened in Arizona, where something unexpected happened.

“The president of Carnival was backstage … and she said, ‘I want to give away a cruise.’ I said, ‘OK, how much?’ She says, ‘Well, I don’t know, 10 or 20.’ And I’m like, ‘What?'”

The chef said the two agreed on who the cruises would go to, and when they took the stage, Fieri asked everyone who was active duty military to raise their hands.

“They raised their hand. I said, ‘OK, you, you, you all get a free cruise.’ People lost their minds, and then I said, ‘OK, raise your hand if you’re a veteran.'”

“We live in the greatest country in the world,” Fieri said. “We have the greatest resources in the world. Collectively as energy, we can do anything we want.”

In addition to being a charitable celebrity chef and TV host, Fieri co-owns the Santo Spirits tequila brand with the former Van Halen singer Sammy Hagar.

Last year, two freight trucks carrying $1 million worth of produce for his the tequila business were stolen, and he told Fox News Digital that thousands of bottles are still missing.

“Someone still has 10,000 bottles of it,” Fieri said. “Of course, we are quite disheartened by the situation.”

On the weekend of November 9, Hagar’s representative told Fox News Digital that two cargo trucks were hijacked in Laredo, Texas.

A representative for Hagar said that “this appears to have been an organized crime attempt where the trucks were illegally brokered to different carriers who put the product on their trucks” after crossing the border from Mexico into Texas.

Fieri said one truck was still missing and it was all part of a planned hijacking.

“It didn’t happen that someone randomly decided to steal a truck… Someone planned it. Someone got it.”

He told Fox News Digital that to make up for the lost tequila truck, he traveled to his facilities to produce more alcohol “immediately.” He noted that he has his team on call 24/7.

“We don’t know where that truck ended up, but there was all kinds of nonsense there. They were masking GPS locators… which show that the truck was in transit.”

Fieri said he initially thought the kidnapping was a prank. He also noted that his team received “really great support” from the Los Angeles Police Department, which was involved in the case.
