Yashasvi Jaiswal forced to play Ranji Trophy for Mumbai after England T20 snubbed
India opener Yashasvi Jaiswal is all set to feature for Mumbai in the match against Jammu & Kashmir in the second match of Ranji Trophy 2024-25. The match will be played at Sharad Pawar Cricket Academy BKC, Mumbai from 23rd January
Jaiswal was recently not named in India’s T20I squad for the five-match T20I series against England, with the selectors opting to give him a ‘rest’ after a grueling Test series against Australia.
However, the youngster instead chose to play the Ranji Trophy which is a big boost or the defending champions. Mumbai are currently third in Group A with three wins, 1 loss and 1 draw in their five matches so far.

Yashasvi Jaiswal in BGT 2024-25
Yashasvi Jaiswal had a good tour of Australia, although he failed to take India over the line. Jaiswal played all five Tests of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy and became India’s highest run-getter in the series.
In five Tests, Jaiswal scored 391 at an average of 43.44 with one hundred and two fifties. He was also the top scorer in the series behind Travis Head. The 23-year-old played a key role in India’s win in Perth with a brilliant second-innings hundred.
Yashasvi Jaiswal has had a fantastic start to his Test career. He has scored 1798 runs in 19 Tests at an average of 52.88 with already 4 hundreds and 10 fifties. At a young age, he was India’s best batsman in the red ball format since his debut.
It is his turn to be picked in the Indian squad for the 2025 Champions Trophy despite not having played an ODI so far. He could be picked as India’s third opener behind captain Rohit Sharma and Shubman Gill.
Rohit Sharma is practicing with Mumbai
Meanwhile, Indian captain Rohit Sharma practiced for almost 45 minutes with the Mumbai Ranji squad. Rohit took part in several tosses and even took part in a match simulation where he faced the best bowlers in Mumbai.
However, Rohit has not confirmed his participation in the Ranji Trophy match against Jammu & Kashmir as he is still not sure about it. Rohit will play in the upcoming Champions Trophy and does not want to get used to red cricket.
In the Border-Gavaskar Trophy, Rohit scored just 31 runs in three Tests at an average of 6.20. The Indian captain even pulled out of the last Test in Sydney due to poor form with the bat.
